The Doom
“To get what you love, you must first be patient with what you hate.”- Al-Ghazali
We have dreams, hopes, and desires. And these are required. They give us something to shoot for, something to hope for, and something to work toward. Paradoxically, they also give us what we don’t want and yet at the same time, need the most.
The doom.
Obstacles.
Difficulties.
Anxieties.
Failures.
Depression.
Doubt.
The doom.
The doom is the opposite side of the coin. The bliss that you seek cannot be achieved without the presence of the doom. You cannot have victory without the prospect of defeat. You cannot have wealth without the possibility of poverty. You cannot be full of joy without the suffering required to get there.
“Suffering has been stronger than all other teaching, and has taught me to understand what your heart used to be. I have been bent and broken, but-I hope, into a better shape.”-Charles Dickens
What are we left with?
The doom.
You must embrace it.
But what is the doom exactly?
The doom is the book you have written that no one is reading.
The doom is the newsletter/channel/podcast that you host but lacks followers.
The doom is the business you have started that has no customers.
The doom is the tool you have built that no one is using.
The doom is the audition you enter but never hear back from.
The doom is that career pivot which everyone thinks is crazy.
The doom cannot be avoided, especially for one forging their own path. It is an omnipresent companion.
Now for those who seek to conform, to remain mediocre, to be asleep at the wheel of life, the doom is not an issue. Safety is their companion. Remaining still is their top speed. Following the herd is their norm.
They have no need to encounter the doom because the doom only makes itself known to those who dare.
To the people who set out to make their dreams a reality, no matter how difficult it may be.
Is this you?
Can you dare?
Can you break free of the chains they put you in? Do you have the courage to do so?
The courage to walk your own path.
The courage to face the doom.
To embrace the doom?
I sure hope so. Society needs people like you more than ever.
People who are defining their own life.
People who know something isn’t right.
People who want to take a chance on themselves and who have the courage to not only take a risk, but live with the failure.
Because the failures will be there. Not a single one of us is undefeated in the game of life. Sure, some may boast that they are, but it is the boasting of a fool. The wise know that mastery and success are the result of countless failures, setbacks, detours, and whatever else the doom throws at you.
But its also the result of embracing the doom and daring to get up.
Do you have that ability?
“Whatever there be a progress in life comes not through adaptation but through daring.”-Henry Miller
Act Now
“There is surely nothing other than the single purpose of the present moment. A man’s whole life is a sequence of moment after moment.”-Yamamoto Tsunetomo
The moment is now.
The doom is coming.
For many, it is already here.
For others, they have already been defeated. Broken by the doom, never to get up again.
What about you?
Are you ready to begin the journey?
Your new career?
Your new life?
Are you ready to face setback after setback?
Are you ready to move forward despite what your peers may think?
Are you ready to face the loneliness that comes with walking your own path?
No one can do this but you. Understand that every great work of art, successful company, accomplishment, award and accolades, and even empires begin from an individual spark of action. The origin of this spark is different for every person. For some, it comes from a grand defeat. Others have a great imagination and the courage to make that imagination a reality. Some are pushed by circumstances and others seek to defy circumstances.
“There is no reality except in action. Man is nothing else than his plan; he exists only to the extent that he fulfills himself; he is therefore nothing else than the ensemble of his acts, nothing else than his life.”-Jean-Paul Sartre, Existentialism is a Humanism
Whatever your reason may be for having your own unique spark, it is up to you to kindle it, especially as the doom hangs over you.
Ultimately, the doom comes to all of us who are taking action.
Will you cower when it arrives?
Will you flee like so many others?
Will you avoid the conflict?
Will you let your time and life slip by as you stay safe but miserable?
Or will you make a stand? Will you take a chance on yourself? Will you take calculated risks that the multitude fear to take?
Will you be the inspiration to others that they are looking for?
The clock is ticking.
Make your move.
Embrace the doom.
Face it.
Rise above it.
Because it is only through embracing the doom that you can truly find the light.
That you can find success.
That you can find the life that you deserve.
Where you were always meant to be.
“For your true nature lies, not concealed deep within you, but immeasurably high above you, or at least above that which you usually take yourself to be.”-Friedrich Nietzsche
