Welcome to the YouTopian Journey. Each week I will be sharing unique wisdom as well as a more in depth overview of the art work that is featured on the Instagram @youtopianjourney. This week we focus on the importance of movement and going all the way in the pursuit of your goals.
BEGIN TO MOVE. GO ALL THE WAY.
“Trust only movement. Life happens at the level of events, not of words. Trust movement.”-Alfred Adler
One of my favorite poems (one that was never taught to me in any part of my formal education and this alone should tell you the state of formal education) is “Go All The Way” by Charles Bukowski. I have included it below:
“If you’re going to try, go all the way.
Otherwise, don’t even start.
This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives and maybe even your mind.
It could mean not eating for three or four days.
It could mean freezing on a park bench.
It could mean jail.
It could mean derision.
It could mean mockery — isolation.
Isolation is the gift.
All the others are a test of your endurance, of how much you really want to do it.
And, you’ll do it, despite rejection and the worst odds.
And it will be better than anything else you can imagine.
If you’re going to try, go all the way.
There is no other feeling like that.
You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire.
You will ride life straight to perfect laughter.
It’s the only good fight there is.”
This poem speaks to many. It lights the fire needed for them to begin their journey and to press forward! But despite this desire to go all the way and listen to the inner yearning to attempt the impossible, many give up at the first sign of resistance. This was perfectly illustrated below, with our first character returning to the safety of the masses.
