IRON WILL REQUIRED
“Most men fail, not through lack of education or agreeable personal qualities, but from lack of dogged determination, from lack of dauntless will.”-Orison Swett Marden
There are many qualities lacking in the modern world.
Courage.
Contentment.
Wisdom.
Knowledge.
Persistence.
But the most important quality that we seem to be lacking is will. Not just any sort of will, but an iron will.
The iron will to heed the call and begin your journey.
The iron will to keep going in the face of obstacles.
The iron will to overcome difficulties.
The iron will to begin again when everything fails.
The iron will to see you through to the end of your journey.
Iron within, iron without.
This is the type of power that transforms not only yourself, but the world. It is without a doubt a super power that is available to each and every one of us.
Yet, the vast majority of us fail to use it.
We let circumstances determine our course.
We let statistics stop us before we start.
We allow the opinions of others to shape our lives and our careers.
Go ahead and inform your friends of your goals and dreams. The responses are always the same.
You don’t have the experience.
You don’t have the contacts.
You don’t have the knowledge.
You have never been away from home or out of the country.
The city would eat you alive.
That industry is ruthless.
The odds are against you.
Don’t rock the boat.
Be happy with what you have.
Play it safe.
This is dangerous. It destroys most people before they can even begin. Stopping them in their tracks.
Don’t let it destroy you.
Every successful inventor, movie star, best-selling author, entrepreneur, artist, all heard the same statements, regardless of the era.
Those statements didn’t stop them. They shouldn’t stop you.
“Make yourselves sheep, and the wolves will eat you.”-Benjamin Franklin, Letter to Thomas Cushing
The iron will is what determines if you take the first step, paint the first stroke, write the first word, show up to the casting, incorporate the company, etc.
The iron will is what helps you face the rejections.
And believe me, there will be rejections. You will be fortunate to receive them. These days, most people, companies, and organizations say nothing at all. They leave you in oblivion or in the best case, inform you that…
You aren’t the right fit.
We are moving forward with another candidate.
It just isn’t what we are looking for.
The timing isn’t right.
We received an enormous amount of submissions but…
Enough of this.
The iron will allows you to ignore these rejections.
The iron will forces you to become better, not bitter.
The iron will keeps you motivated.
It is Stephen King who continued to write for years as every major publishing house turned him down.
It is Robert Goddard who continued to test rockets when the New York Times lambasted the entire field and attacked him personally for not understanding high school math.
It is J.K. Rowling who lived and wrote in poverty as Harry Potter was rejected by the twelve publishers it was submitted to.
It is Stallone, down to his last few dollars, pitching a film called Rocky.
It is Steve Jobs, demonstrating the home computer and why we will need it, when few investors at the time thought we did.
The iron will overcomes all obstacles.
You must use it.
"Thirst for victory leads to defeat; not tiring of defeat leads to victory."-Yamaoka Tesshu
UNLEASH YOUR IRON WILL
"A Samurai's sword is harder than metal. Once I have decided something, not even the Gods can change it."- Morooka Hikoemon
In order to attain true success, you must possess the iron will.
And you must unleash it.
Unleashing it upon the obstacles and even the world.
There is no other way. You can’t hack this or outsource it. You can’t wait for the right moment but rather make the moment right via the iron will.
Will becomes iron with experience. This is the result of constant failures and setbacks.
Not the thought of failures and defeats, but the reality of them. The scars and wounds that you will inevitably accumulate.
It is painful and bitter. But the fruit is sweet.
This is the result of taking fearless action. This action is transformative but so few people want to take the first step.
The rewards are too painful, the goal is a bridge too far.
This type of thinking must cease.
“People live through such pain only once. Pain comes again-but it finds a tougher surface.”-Willa Cather
If you want your life to truly change, then you must push and pull, claw and scrape, fight again and again.
Face the monster beneath your bed.
Go after what you want.
Get back up after getting beaten down.
Show up day in and day out.
Dealing with the cheap apartment.
The same bland food.
The constant rejections.
Grinding it out for what feels like an eternity.
Until you reach your goals.
This isn’t the result of anything other than will power. And this power becomes iron after a time.
The world becomes different.
You will see that every obstacle in your path is not a battle of resources but a battle of will power.
It is up to you to use it.
Go forward.
“The world takes us at our own valuation. It believes in the man who believes in himself, but it has little use for the timid man, the one who is never certain of himself; who cannot rely on his own judgment, who craves advice from others, and is afraid to go ahead on his own account.”-Orison Swett Marden
