Welcome to the YouTopian Journey. Each week I will be sharing unique wisdom as well as a more in-depth overview of the artwork that is featured on the Instagram @youtopianjourney. This week we discuss why it is essential to push past inner doubts and embrace the infinite possibilities of self-belief.
SELF-SABOTAGE
“The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.”-Bertrand Russell
You have ideas. You have aims. You have goals. Whether it is to be the next great entrepreneur, writer, director, or painter does not matter. What matters is the strength to execute, the will to take the plunge and press forward.
Yet so few do. Few are willing to take the first step in a journey of a thousand miles. Even fewer volunteer to take the plunge into the river of doubt, wary of where the currents may take them. This appears as a paradox in our society, where self-help and self-improvement tweets, videos, posts, and podcasts are ubiquitous. Seminars and webinars will every corner of LinkedIn. Gurus beckon with courses that promise success and untold riches. Everyone seems to have made it big time and in record time. It all appears so simple. So easy. Success and happiness are just a button away, a swipe to the left for bliss.
But this isn’t in the case.
We live in a society of all talk, but little action. And this inaction isn’t the result of the state of society, but rather the thoughts of the individual. The internal doubts that plague you. The jittery “what ifs” of the mind.
What if I fail?
What if I can’t amount to something?
What if I waste my time?
And the most immobilizing:
What if I can’t compare to others?
Yes, the modern world is nothing more than a competition between people attempting to outdo one another. Countless people parading their successes while at the same time, concealing their poverties. So many believing what they see without a second thought.
