YOUR ROLE IS NOT YOUR OWN
“Life is a process of becoming, a combination of states we have to go through. Where people fail is that they wish to elect a state and remain in it. This is a kind of death.”-Anais Nin
In society today, we are plagued by many things.
We are plagued by our peers, who constantly judge us and believe that they know what’s best for us.
We are plagued by our bosses and managers, who bark orders at us at useless jobs.
We are plagued by our leaders, who are ineffectual at best.
We are plagued by social media, which is a constant stream of the good life that is always out of reach for us.
We are plagued by the bills, reality TV, and endless foolishness that surrounds us.
We are plagued by an actual plague, a pandemic that is here to stay.
Most importantly, we are plagued by the roles that society has set for us, chaining us to a sinking ship. Roles that are not a fit for us but that we accept because that is just how things are. Roles that remove our ability to act heroically, both toward ourselves and others.
“A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be”-Abraham Maslow
