Last month I released a post containing some of my favorite and life changing quotes (which you can read here). Due to the popularity, we are doing it again. But these aren’t just my favorite quotes, these are quotes that will enable you to conquer 2023 and reach your goals.
I should know because they helped me reach mine.
YouTopian Journey requires a lot of research. I am constantly reading, both for knowledge and action. Whenever I find a quote that I believe is valuable, I add it to a Google document. I started this during the pandemic and the document is now 168 pages and growing. I quote everyone from philosophers to poets, psychologists to generals. Whatever I think could personally benefit you.
Feel free to copy them and use them however you want.
It is my hope that these quotes allow you to shine your brightest in 2023!
Enjoy!
On daring
“It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.”-Seneca
“He who has begun has half done. Dare to be wise; begin!”-Horace
“This is no time for ease and comfort. It is time to dare and endure.”-Winston Churchill
“Power is given only to those who dare to lower themselves and pick it up. Only one thing matters, one thing; to be able to dare!”-Fyodor Dostoevsky
“A man with outward courage dares to die; a man with inner courage dares to live.”-Lao Tzu
“Happy are those who dare courageously to defend what they love.”-Ovid
"To dare is to lose one's footing momentarily. Not to dare is to lose oneself."-Søren Kierkegaard
“There is a time when it is necessary to abandon the used clothes, which already have the shape of our body and to forget our paths, which takes us always to the same places. This is the time to cross the river: and if we don’t dare to do it, we will have stayed, forever beneath ourselves.”-Fernando Pessoa
On solitude
“I need solitude. I need space. I need air. I need the empty fields round me; and my legs pounding along roads; and sleep; and animal existence.”-Virginia Woolf
“I came to a point where I needed solitude and just stop the machine of thinking and enjoying what they call living, I just wanted to lie in the grass and look at the clouds.”-Jack Kerouac, Lonesome Traveler
“The more powerful and original a mind, the more it will incline towards the religion of solitude.”-Aldous Huxley
“What is necessary, after all, is only this: solitude, vast inner solitude. To walk inside yourself and meet no one for hours-that is what you must be able to attain.”-Rainer Maria Rilke
"Solitude is the place of purification."-Martin Buber
“One can be instructed by society but one is inspired in solitude.”-Goethe
“Loneliness is not solitude. Solitude requires being alone whereas loneliness shows itself most sharply in company with others.”-Hannah Arendt
And my absolute personal favorite:
“Language... has created the word "loneliness" to express the pain of being alone. And it has created the word "solitude" to express the glory of being alone.”-Paul Tillich
On growth
“Life is an ongoing process of choosing between safety (out of fear and need for defense) and risk (for the sake of progress and growth). Make the growth choice a dozen times a day.”-Abraham Maslow
“Anytime you’re gonna grow, you’re gonna lose something. You’re losing what you’re hanging onto to keep safe. You’re losing habits that you’re comfortable with, you’re losing familiarity.”- James Hillman
“I do not mean to be sentimental about suffering…but people who cannot suffer can never grow up, can never discover who they are.”-James Baldwin
"Life is growth. If we stop growing, technically and spiritually, we are as good as dead."-Morihei Ueshiba
“Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.”-Kurt Vonnegut
“People are like dirt. They can either nourish you and help you grow as a person or they can stunt your growth and make you wilt and die.”-Plato
“The human being cannot live in a condition of emptiness for very long: if he is not growing toward something, he does not merely stagnate; the pent-up potentialities turn into morbidity and despair, and eventually into destructive activities.”-Rollo May
On Anxiety
“The capacity to bear anxiety is important for the individual’s self-realization and for his conquest of his environment. Every person experiences continual shocks and threats to his existence; indeed, self-actualization occurs only at the price of moving ahead despite such shocks. This indicates the constructive use of anxiety”-Rollo May
“If man were a beast or an angel, he would not be able to be in anxiety. Since he is both beast and angel, he can be in anxiety, and the greater the anxiety, the greater the man.”-Soren Kierkegaard
“In other words, as long as man is an ambiguous creature he can never banish anxiety; what he can do instead is to use anxiety as an eternal spring for growth into new dimensions of thought and trust.”-Ernest Becker
“If I take death into my life, acknowledge it, and face it squarely, I will free myself from the anxiety of death and the pettiness of life- and only then will I be free to become myself.”-Martin Heidegger
“One of the few blessings of living in an age of anxiety is that we are forced to become aware of ourselves.”-Rollo May,
On potential
“Human potential at its best is to transform a tragedy into a personal triumph, to turn one's predicament into a human achievement.”-Viktor Frankl
“If any organism fails to fulfill its potentialities, it becomes sick.”-William James
“Every human life contains a potential, if that potential is not fulfilled, then that life was wasted...”-Carl Jung
“Every man's foremost task is the actualization of his unique, unprecedented and never-recurring potentialities, and not the repetition of something that another, and be it even the greatest, has already achieved.”-Martin Buber
“Anyone can achieve their fullest potential, who we are might be predetermined, but the path we follow is always of our own choosing. We should never allow our fears or the expectations of others to set the frontiers of our destiny. Your destiny can't be changed but, it can be challenged. Every man is born as many men and dies as a single one.”-Martin Heidegger
“One central need in life is to fulfill its own potential.”-Rollo May
What man actually needs is not a tensionless state but rather the striving and struggling for a worthwhile goal, a freely chosen task. What he needs is not the discharge of tension at any cost but the call of a potential meaning waiting to be fulfilled by him.”-Viktor Frankl

I leave you with another favorite quote of mine and hope it helps you as we enter 2023.
“You are capable of more than you know. Choose a goal that seems right for you and strive to be the best, however hard the path. Aim high. Behave honorably. Prepare to be alone at times, and to endure failure. Persist! The world needs all you can give.”-E. O. Wilson
